RAMBO-4 aka JOHN RAMBO
After a long long gap Sly Stallone is back with another violent episode of the Rambo series.Enikku serikku Sylvestor Stallone ennu paranjal aadhyam orma varika aa pazhaya mudi valarthi kayyil oru kathi pidichu nilkkunna RAMBOyude chithramanu.Njan aadhyam kanda action film aayirunnu FIRST BLOOD (oru 18-20 kollam munpu) and coz of that Sly Stallone has a special place in my heart.Last time we saw Rambo in Afganistan and I think it was before the collapse of soviet Union.So ithinu munpathe episodilokke onnukil COLD WARine base cheythayirunnu allengil the war with Vietnamese.But ippo athokke pazhamkathakalanu so oru puthiya prameyam kandethanam ADI undakkan and atlast they decided a war torn BURMA is the perfect place.
The film opens with a news reel showing the violent killings and human right violations in Burma.A news reelil parayunnundu Burmayile ee civil war aanu lokathil ettavum kooduthal neendu nilkkunna civil war ennu.After this footage we are taken into the picteresque heartland of Burma.Oru miltary truckil ethanum civiliansine kondu vannu oru idathu irakki vidum and they will be asked to run thru a field and the militants will throw live mines in to the field and the civilians on the run will step on this mines and will be torn into pieces.People who refuses to run or who escaped the mines are shot dead by the Militants.The scenes are BLOODY and they are as graphical as it could be.
Now our hero aka JOHN RAMBO is living in the Thai-Burma border and he is earning his livelihood by doing odd jobs for the villagers like making knives,,Metal spare parts and also catching poisonous snakes for the showbiz men (Paambu pidithom,kolla paneem).One day a group of social workers from the USA approaches him and asks him to take them to Burma.They came to know that RAMBO knows that part of the world better than anyone else but they arent aware that he is one of the most efficient warrior/killing machine America has ever produced.Pullikaaran nammade Lalettane pole vettum kuthum okke nirthi GOOD BOY aavan ulla sramathilanu mathramalla vayassum oru paadayi (Engane nokkiyalum JOHN RAMBO enna character is 60+).So he is reluctant to take them across the border.Avarum nammade annanum samsarichathu ethandu ithu pole aayirunnu..

Ithinidayil aa social workers thamasichirunna gramam avidathe miltants valanju and majority of the population were killed by them and the Americans were took hostage (Ellattinum nalla best PEDAYUm kitti).Kurachu doosam kazhinjum ivare kaananjappol Americayile achayanmarkku pedi aayi.Avar oraale nammade Annande aduthekkayachu asking him to carry a group of mercenaries to Burma inorder to bring back the hostages.Annan agrees to take them to Burma and he takes a bunch of thugs to Burma and he will tell that he also come with them but the leader of the thugs told him that "It is none of a BOAT MAN's business" and asked him to stay in the Boat(Vinaasa kale vipareetha budhi).

Ende abhiprayathil Rambo seriesile worst film ithanu but compared to other recent action films this is far better.If you are allergic to blood and violence it is better you stay away from this movie.This movie has a very violent and graphical representation of blood and death.I read somewhere that RAMBO-3 is the most violent movie ever made and I think RAMBO-4 is a good contender for that title.At 61 Sly Stallone still looks fit and if he havent undergone some sugeries and medications in the past he still wudve looked what he looked 20 years back.If the GRAPEVINE is true then we will be seeing the fifth episode of RAMBO soon and this time the field of action will be USA.Swaram nannayirikkumbol thanne paattu nirthane ennanende prarthana...coz for people like me JOHN RAMBO is a LEGEND!!

AADAHAVAN - MY REVIEW
I have been eagerly waiting to watch AADHAVAN since the first time I saw the trailers on TV and atlast my wait ended yesterday when the film hit the screens on the eve of Diwali.It is released in a multiplex with four screens (Don’t even think about comparing it with SATHYAM complex)…and only the main hall has a big screen and decent capacity…rest are all 100 seaters with below par audio/video system….so I was thinking whether to watch such a big budget explosive movie in small screen or shud I wait till it get shifted to the main screen (where BLUE is playing).But as the day progressed I cudnt resist the temptation of watching the movie on the first day itself (When it comes to movies I am really a fanatic)..so atlast I decided to watch it despite the quality of the hall and I called a friend (a mallu) who reluctantly (reluctant coz he was also a victim of KANDASAMY) agreed to come and by the time we reached the cinema..it was already housefull and my friend was happy that he started saying "THANK GOD - its housefull" but I was in no mood to accept defeat so as usual I started thinking abt other avenues (BLACK TICKET - What else!!!) and was looking at the faces of people for any hint of an extra ticket and I didn’t have to wait for long as my TRAINED eyes fell on a man who was bargaining with 2 fellows and I knew that victory is mine…I managed to get 2 tks by paying 100% premium (Common guyzzz it’s a release movie and its Diwali…….)
Once inside the hall we managed to find a seat not too near the screen (since it’s a 100 seater and no seat numbers there is not much choice other than to be happy with what u get)….the movie started soon and the first scene showed a contract to kill somebody getting outsourced thru different channels and at last the contratc reaches Shayaji Shinde (a contract killer based in Kolkotha).The target is a LOVE GURU styled spiritual leader and he is on a trip to India and he was to be taken out while he attends a meeting in Kolkotha.Shayaji Shindey will follow the target and just a moment before he planned to pull the trigger..Surya will take the shot and we will think that Suryaa is Shayaji's rival but the next scene shows that Suryaa aka AADHAVAN is in fact Shayaji's stepson and his ultimate weapon.Ananth Babu (Yesteryear comedian Nagesh's son who played lead role in many movies and then disappeared and rumoured to be a drug/alcohol addict) makes an appearance after a long gap as Shayaji's biological son.He looks pale and his appearance is almost like Michael Jacksonesque (Plae face,Sunken eyes…).So with this hit Shayaji and his gang became famous overnite and they started getting big contracts from then on and soon makes a name for them in the business.One day they were approached by an anonymous person(Rahul Dev) to takeout somebody and were offered big payoff.The target was an Ex-Judge (Late malayalam actor Murali) who now chairs an enquiry commission probing in to the missing of kids from the slums and links to an international group indulged in organ-trafficking (this group is headed by Rahul Dev).
Suryaa's first attempt to kill the judge didn’t succeed (he uses a sniper rifle and misses the shot as Murali bent down to accept a garland the instant Suryaa pulled the trigger ).Rahul Dev was angry and he teases Suryaa for his incompetence and will taunt him stating that their gang is worth only for petty crimes and not such serious contracts.Suryaa gets irritated by this and says that from then on killing the Judge is his need (he says that he never missed a target before and he wants to maintain that record)and not Rahul Dev's.
Suryaa plans to enter the Judge's house in disguise and then to take the shot when an opportunity arises.This is where Vadivelu enters in to the picture and from then on it’s a laugh riot almost till the climax.Vadivelu is the caretaker of Judge's household and Sathyan (Sathyaraj's nephew who acted in a couple of movies earlier) is his MAPPILLAI (he is supposed to marry Vadivelu's good for nothing sister)…. they were supposed to meet on Howrah Bridge and Vadivelu waits on the bridge and Anand Babu dupes him and takes him to their boat and there Suryaa explains his plan and tell that he will kill Sathyan if Vadivelu don’t comply…Vadivelu concerned about his sister's future agrees to help them and takes Suryaa to Judge's residence on the pretext that Suryaa is his nephew and has come to help him in the kitchen.Judge's household contains a dozen or so members and is ruled by SAROJA DEVI….the scene when Surya is introduced to the household is hilarious and Suryaa will exhibit his aerobic/yoga skills (He is FLEXIBLE).Nayans is Murali's niece and Murali has promised her hand to Ramesh Kanna (He is the one who penned the story of this film) who is Nayans's murapayan(obviously Nayan didn’t like this arrangement and wants to get out of this).Suryaa's various plans to kill the judge fails due to various unexpected incidents and after one particular incident Nayans doubts about Suryaa's intentions and tells him that she is going to inform police abt her suspicions and at this juncture Suryaa tells her that he is Judge's son who ran away years back..Nayan and the household believes this story and Nayan falls in love with him…..
Is Suryaa really Judge's son ?? if so why is he trying to kill the judge ?? will he succeed in killing the judge ?? that’s what the rest of the story is about…..
Some points I wud like to mention
1) The movie is not as fastpaced or actien oriented as the trailer promises….
2) Surya has proved again that he is versatile….his comedy tyming is superb (I loved his humour in PITHAMAHAN) and watching him and Vadivelu in action reminded me of KARTHIK-GOUNDAMANI or SATHYARAJ-GOUNDAMANI combination (which is the ultimate combo..)
3) The scenes where Surya is shown as a 10yr old boy (grafix) is a new idea and masses will like it…
4) The plot is too thin to catch our attention….
5) Songs are mediocre and it doesn’t gell well with the film (it stands out like sore thumb)
6) As usual K.S.RAVIKUMAR does a cameo and I wudve missed it had I left the theater a few seconds earlier…he appears after the climax and almost when they start showing credits..I am sure that many people wudve missed those scenes…..
7) If the movie makes it big then the main reasons will be
A) Festival crowd
B)No Tough competition
C)The comedy scenes
4) Suryaa's acting…..
NB:Its just my personal opinion…….(Btw Nayan has got about 10 dialogues in the film…..anyway who cares about Nayan's dialogues na ????)

PARANORMAL ACTIVITIES - MY REVIEW
Hi Guyzzz I read in a forum about a movie called "PARANORMAL ACTIVITIES" which is supposed to be one of the scariest movies of recent times... When that article came there were only a few who had watched that movie even though it was shot during 2007 and was supposed to release in 2007.Those who had the opportunity to watch it during screenings/Limited shows/film festivals were all having good words about the movie.So after reading that article I searched the net to find out if any copy is available online..but no luck.So I have been waiting for the movie to be out in theaters or DVDs and atlast my wait came to an end day before yesterday when I managed to download a DVD-screener from the net (The movie got released last week I suppose - its a HALLOWEEN special competing against SAW-VI).
Since I am a horror movie fan and have watched almost all the recent horror pictures(PROM NIGHT,MY BLOODY VALENTINE,TRICK R TREAT,DRAG ME TO HELL,LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT,THE TRIBE etc)..I didnt get too much scared after watching "PARANORMAL ACTIVITIES" but I shud also add that still I feel a chill when sleeping alone in my flat thinking abt the movie.Like all horror movies this also shud be watched alone in the dark without interruption to feel the horror.I watched it alone and during some scenes I had goose bumps all over the body...the real beauty of the movie is that there is not much violence (none to be frank) or blood or flesh but still it manages to scare the shit out of us...
The movie just has 4 characters (+2 cops who appears in the climax) and out of that 4 only 2 are shown thru out the movie (the other 2 has just 2 scenes each).The movie is completely shot using a handicam and shot as a documentary/live footage.The story is about a gal who has been followed by a spirit from the day she was a toddler.Now she is 20 and is staying with her boyfriend in a villa and she feels that the spirit is following her even now and also that the presence is becoming more intense.She hears foot steps,whispers etc and she tells this to her boy friend who doesnt believe her fully.He suggests that they use a handicam and record their daytoday life and to check if the tape records anything unusual.Meanwhile Katie (the gal) consults a psychic/spiritual counsellor and he says that she is followed by a demon and not the spirit of a human being and only a demonologist can help her.Micah (The boy) wasn’t happy with this suggestion and he didn’t take the advice seriously and they continued shooting with the handycam (which according to the counsellor's opinion can anger the demon and can result in violent reactions).One morning when they play the tape they ntices that their bedroom door closes and opens automatically even though there is no wind…and another occasion they hear foot steps (someone running up and down the stairs)…and next day Micah spreads white flour (or some white poder) on the floor and corridor to findout if the spirit is leaving any foot prints and tho their horror they see that foot marks appears in the floor as if someone is walking…..over the days many such occurances happens and Katie decided to call the demonologist but he was out of station so they calls the councellor again and as soon as he enters the house he feels some strong negative presence and he says that the spirit I very angry and its not safe for him to saty there any longer and he ran out.Over the days many unexplained things takes place in the house and 1 or 2 occassions Micah starts walking in the sleep and the next morning she doesn’t have any recollection of what happened the previous night….so what happenes in the end is what the story is about…
My opinion
1) The movie is excellent and not a bit boring….it keeps the suspense till the end…
2) Some scenes will scare u badly…the scene which haunts me still is the nite when Micah wakes up (or may be still asleep and it’s the subconscious which is alert) in the middle of the night and just stands near the bed watching her boyfriend sleep (she stands in the same place for 3 hrs without even moving)..that scene is really spooky….
3) This movie will satisy the Halloween crowd….
4) Our indian directors shud take a leaf out of their book and try something creative rather than complaining that HOLLYWOOD got a mega budget and wider audience…..this movie wudntve cost anything more than shooting a wedding/wedding reception…it doesn’t have any mind blowing GRAFIX sequence…it doesn’t have a stellar star cast..nor does it show Fleash to lure the teenagers..its a horror movie aimed at scaring us and it succeeds to a great extent….

NEELA THAMARA
I heard abt this movie from one of my friend and he commented that the movie is good and is like a poetry (I shudve realised that poetry and me dont sit well!!).I asked one of my csin in kerala about the movie and he said that he is yet to watch the movie but that the reviews are good.So I thought I should give this a try..after all its a LAL JOSE movie and its a remake of a late 70's movie by the same name (Was the 70's movie a HIT ???) and its penned by none other than M.T.Vasudevan nair (Anandalabdhikkiniyenthu venam ??).So we booked the ticket (couple of friends and myself) and went to watch the movie..there wasnt much crowd inside the cinema and I thought the reason may be lack of awareness or absence of MAJOR STARS in the movie and not coz the movie is dull (I think there is a major flaw in my thought process!!!)
The movie started with a documentary crew shooting a docu(what else will a documentary crew shoot ???)abt a flower called NEELA THAMARA(Blue Lotus) which grows in a temple ponds…the legend is that it will blossom if someone makes a wish to the lord of that temple and if that wish is going to be fulfilled…after that scene we are taken to an old and traditional housing to see an ailing Granny….and as usual many old ladies visit our granny and convey their regards and then 2 other middle aged ladies comes to visit our grandma…one is her daughter-in-law (She married another guy after the death of her 1st husband who was our Granny's son) and another one is a woman who used to be a maid in the house 3 decades before(She was attracted to our Granny's son…..)
Now camera rolls to the past and we are shown the story that happened 3 decades back (We are not even interested in their present !!!).Our heroine (Archana Kavi) works as a servant maid in our granny's house and our hero (Kailash) is granny's one and only son who is doing his LLB….Our hero is portrayed as a person who is fond of poetries and novels (and Galss of course!!) and he will try to seduce our maid who initially defended his advances but later succumbed to his charming and romantic gestures(Btw she prays in the above said temple and asks god if what she is going to do is right or wrong and the answer was a blossomed LOTUS!!! kalikaalam ennallathe entha parayya!!)…she believes that he is her knight in shining armour (or her prince charming) and surrenders her viriginity to him…there is a nice song in between and its picturised well (Only saving grace in the movie is the songs).The hero is waiting for his exam results and he is not sure about whether he will pass or not…Our maid comes to know about his worries and she prays for him and a lotus gets blossomed and he gets a distinction….she starts dreaming abt marrying him (this is not in the movie - but I assumed that’s the case!!) but his uncle(who is a busy lawyer and who manages to secure a nice paying job for our hero) had different plans for our hero..he wantes his daughter to get married to our hero and says the same to his sis (our granny or hero's mother) and she was more than happy to agree…I thought atleast our hero will show some spine and disagree with the arrangement and will stand for our maid…but I was mistaken…he accepted the proposal without showing any dissent (Bloody imbecile!!)…our maid hears this and she is heartbroken (who wont be ?? )….She wont even get a chance to talk to him after this incident (Till that time he was following her like a shadow!!) …our hero gets married to uncle's daughter (Samvrita Sunil) and our maid had to continue staying in the household eventhough she felt uncomfortable to be in his presence…in the following days Samvrita comes to know about the past affair and she shouts at our hero and asks our maid to leave the home….There ends the flashback and now both of them are grown up and hero is dead…they (Its no longer Archana Kavi and Samvrita but 2 other people who portrays their old age) are recollecting the past and how much have changed since then..they no longer carry any grudge towards anybody (Maid is not angry towards Samvrita or Hero and Samvrita is not angry with LATE hero or Archana!!)…..the film ends soon…
So the whole movie is about how an innocent servant maid is molested by a feudal youth and got away with it….there is nothing new in the story and I don’t know if it’s a scene by scene copy of the old NEELA THAMARA (during the late 70's such a story wudve been relevant and many a gals wudve empathise with our maid coz such incidents were the order of the day then but now the situation is not similar..such incidents do happen occassioanlly…modern women is not dumb and helpless anymore..they know their rights and most are willing to enforce their rights) then I wonder why didn’t the creators just re-release that movie by doing a bit of colour correction and stuff ??? I believe it still wudve been watched by those people who watched the new NEELA THAMARA…if its not the same then I wud like to find out whats new in this version (any masterful touches by Lal Jose ?? I didn’t notice any…).
My opinion
1) The movie is not worth a theaterical release….it wudve been better if the creaters released it straight to TV or DVDs….Its not a kind of movie u go with ur frnds over the weekend for the purpose of getting entertained…
2) Archana Kavi as the maid has done a wonderful job..she looks so fresh and innocent and suits the role of a manipulated teen..
3) There isnt any scope for brilliant performances for other actors…
4) Reema Kallingal is wasted in the role of Shaarath Amminy (Most didn’t understand the need of such role in that movie..)
5) Songs was good…(When I told this to a friend he told me that if song is good then play it in stereo….rather than wasting tym watching the whole movie)
6) It will be appealing to the BUJI's and Female audience coz its slow and its Female oriented resply
